PS5 Emulator for PC
Download PCSX5, an experimental PlayStation 5 emulator for Windows and macOS. Built for players and emulation enthusiasts who want to explore PS5 emulation on desktop hardware, with modern graphics APIs, controller support and a legal-use model based on original games.
Built for PlayStation 5 emulation on desktop hardware
Runs on your desktop
The PlayStation 5 is built on x86_64 hardware, so PCSX5 uses hardware-assisted virtualization where your CPU supports it, running parts of the workload more directly than pure software translation.
Modern graphics APIs
Render through DirectX, Vulkan or OpenGL on Windows, or Metal on supported Macs. Switching back ends lets you find the best path for your GPU, drivers and each game.
Play the way you want
Use a PlayStation controller, an Xbox controller or another compatible gamepad. Mouse input is supported for first-person control setups on the desktop.
PS5 emulator features
Native x86_64 emulation
Built around the PS5’s x86_64 architecture, PCSX5 leans on hardware-assisted virtualization on compatible CPUs to make PlayStation 5 emulation practical on modern PCs.
Multiple graphics back ends
DirectX, Vulkan and OpenGL rendering paths on Windows, plus a Metal path on supported Macs. Quality and performance vary by game, GPU, driver and API.
Variable frame rate
Some titles can target 60 FPS or higher on strong systems, while heavier games may need lower settings. High-end GPUs can push toward 4K output.
Controller & mouse input
PlayStation controllers, Xbox controllers and other compatible gamepads are supported, and mouse input works for first-person control styles.
Windows & macOS builds
A 64-bit Windows build is the primary path thanks to broad driver and API support. A macOS beta is available for Metal-compatible hardware.
In-app updates
Check for updates from inside the app or enable automatic updates. Beta builds change often, so staying current improves stability and compatibility.

macOS 10.13.6 or later. Compatibility and performance can differ from Windows.
PCSX5 is beta software. Expect bugs, crashes and game-specific behavior.
PS5 emulator system requirements
PCSX5 is demanding. A low-end office PC, old integrated-graphics laptop or underpowered mini PC is not a good target for PlayStation 5 emulation.
Operating system
- 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11
- macOS 10.13.6 or later (beta build)
Processor (CPU)
- 4-core CPU with SSE 4.2 and AVX support
- Modern Intel Core i5 / AMD Ryzen or better recommended
Graphics (GPU)
- Direct3D 11.1 and Shader Model 5.0 support
- Dedicated GPU strongly recommended
- GeForce GTX 980 / Radeon RX 580 or better for 1080p
Memory & runtime
- 6 GB RAM minimum, 8 GB or more recommended
- Windows: .NET Framework 3.5 and Visual C++ 2015 runtime
- Current graphics drivers installed
How to set up the PS5 emulator
Download the right build
Choose the Windows build for most PCs, or the macOS beta build for supported Mac hardware.
Install runtime components
On Windows, confirm .NET Framework, Visual C++ runtime, DirectX and up-to-date GPU drivers are installed.
Prepare your games
PCSX5 is for legally owned PS5 and PS4 games. A PS5 device identifier file (PDIX) links the setup to real hardware.
Choose a graphics back end
Select the rendering path that runs best on your system - Vulkan, DirectX, OpenGL or Metal, depending on your hardware.
Connect a controller
Pair a PlayStation controller, Xbox controller or other supported gamepad and set your bindings before launching a game.
Test conservatively
Start at default settings and 1080p, confirm stability, then raise resolution and tweak options from there.
Keep it updated
Use the in-app update checker. Beta builds change compatibility, performance and bug behavior between releases.
Performance expectations & tips
Performance depends on the whole system - CPU instruction support, GPU driver maturity, the graphics API, storage speed, thermals, RAM, the game and the emulator version. Beta emulation rewards careful setup.
Responsible, legal emulation
PCSX5 is built for personal, lawful, research and preservation use with a real PlayStation 5 and original PS4 or PS5 games. It is not made for piracy, unauthorized downloads or bypassing local law. PS5 Emulator is an independent project and is not affiliated with Sony Interactive Entertainment.
